The Alexa Prize is now in its third year and we look forward to working with new and returning university teams from around the world to advance the state of the art in conversational AI. Launched in 2016, the Alexa Prize is a multimillion-dollar university challenge to advance human-computer interaction. Teams are tasked with creating socialbots that can converse coherently and engagingly with humans for 20 minutes on a range of current events and popular topics such as entertainment, sports, politics, technology, and fashion.
Based on feedback from universities, we have adjusted our competition calendar to better align to the academic calendar year. I am pleased to share the updated schedule for the Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge 3:
Calendar of Events
March 4, 2019 – Application period opens
May 14, 2019 – Application period closes
June 2019 – Competing teams announced
Summer 2019 – Teams onboarded
September 2019 – Competition begins

In 2019 we are taking the Alexa Prize on a global roadshow; a free event where interested university students and faculty can connect, collaborate, and learn more about the Alexa Prize and related opportunities. At each location, registered participants will gain valuable insight and even compete in a mini chatbot hackathon. We will be announcing cities, dates and additional details in the coming weeks. Click here to make sure you receive notifications as updates to the Alexa Prize are released!
Check back on March 14, 2019 to access the application and find resources that will help guide you through the process of applying for the Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge 3. Please don’t hesitate to contact our team if you have questions or require additional information.
